AT THE ATTRACTIONS

Of course most people visit Florida to enjoy the Walt Disney World Resort to the West of Kissimmee. It is about 15 minutes from your vacation home, very well sign posted & easily accessible from Interstate 4 & Highway 192.

The oldest of the Florida Disney parks is the Magic Kingdom. Opened in 1971 it has the classic Disney rides like The Mad Hatters Tea Party, Dumbo, Splash Mountain, Thunder Mountain, Buzz Lightyears Space Spin & the worlds most popular theme park ride - Space Mountain. Magic Kingdom is home to one of the most photographed of all Disney creations - Cinderella’s castle (right).

Lines move quickly so don’t be put off by a long queue. The more popular rides now have the FastPass® system so you can book a time to ride & return to the front of the line.

The Magic Kingdom has enough to see & do to comfortably fill up two days & maybe more.

EPCOT is split into two main themes.  Future World has the latest technological developments. & the main rides are Honey I Shrunk the Audience, Spaceship Earth (left - not just a great big golf ball), Body Wars (an inside the body simulator ride), Test Track takes you through the process of automobile testing & Mission: SPACE will have you blasting into space without leaving the ground.

World Showcase is eleven countries laid out around the huge lake. There are shows, attractions & restaurants serving food from each of the countries. EPCOT has an evening fireworks & laser show. It is a full day out with lots of walking which can take it's toll on smaller legs so it may be worth while taking a stroller.  Like Magic Kingdom EPCOT has so much to see that it may be worth putting aside two full days to enjoy it all.

Disney/MGM is the smallest of the main Disney parks & still a working studio. Try the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror (left), travel to the moon of Endor on Star Tours or go to 60mph in 3 seconds on the Rock n Roller Coaster (like Space Mountain but faster & much louder. For a quieter life try the Great Movie Ride, visit Muppet Vision 3D or take in the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular.

Lunch at Pizza Planet, The Brown Derby or one of  the many  themed restaurants or eat popcorn from the stands & watch the street performers. Disney MGM Studios has something for  everyone (you can even play Who Wants to be a Millionaire? in it's full size studio format), it's a great day out.

Animal Kingdom is the newest &, at five times the size of the Magic Kingdom, the largest of all Disney parks. The Jungle theme is enhanced by with exotic animals, safaris’ & riverboat cruises.

Main attractions here are The Kali River Rapids (you get soaked), Primeval Whirl is a spinning roller coaster, there are the ups and downs of Tricera Top Spin, the excellent "Dinosaur" or why not try The 3D show "it’s tough to be a bug"?

Disney currently has two water parks & by buying the five or seven day hopper pass you get an additional two or four days entry to them respectively.

Typhoon Lagoon: Is a tropical paradise until a siren heralds the approach of the tidal waves. These are on not small ripples but walls of water big enough to surf before the park opens (for a price). There are lots of slides, big, small, single & family but all are a lot of fun. Relax on Castaway Creek - the lazy river that circles the park - or snorkel the shark pool (small ones).  There are several places to eat  & towels & lockers are available for hire.

Blizzard Beach: Snow themed with chutes, slides & Cross Country Creek which is a lazy river that circles the Park.  As well as the Slush Gusher, Runoff Rapids, Snow Stormers & Toboggan Racers Blizzard Beach is home to Summit Plummet which.  At 120 feet up this is the highest free fall slide in the world & at 60 mph it's also the fastest.  It's a long way up but why walk?  Disney have thought of everything & provided a chair lift. In addition to the rides here, there are numerous places to relax, plenty of foodstops & you can rent towels & lockers.

Wet ‘n Wild: Probably the best known of all water parks & home to every type of chute & slide. It is at the north end of International Drive 30 minutes from our house. Some rides are built for several people so families can ride at the same time, the Bubba Tub holds five, Fuji Flyer takes four & the Black Hole, two. There is the Hydra Fighter, the seven story drop of the Bomb Bay, a cable operated Knee Ski, Lazy River or the new body coaster The Storm.  There is also an excellent & a good area for younger children. Wet ‘n Wild has taken up the challenge of the Disney parks & is definitely as good as both of them.
