Like
MGM, Universal Studios remain a fully working studio but the two are a
very different day
out &
neither should be missed. The major attractions here include Shrek 3D, ET - take
a cycle ride to help him get
back home or maybe you will be picked for a part on Earthquake. Jaws is
great fun as well as being a little wet at times & Back to the Future is as
good as ever & should not be missed. In addition to these is your chance to be a
trainee agent in Men in Black Alien Attack as well as the opportunity to join in
the fun at Nickleodeon Studios. A shorter walk than most parks but easily a very
full day & possibly more.
Part of
the same complex as Universal Studios (separate entrance fee) is Islands
of Adventure. The park has a huge amount of enjoyment for everyone but
is a must for lovers of big Roller Coasters & Simulators. Duelling
Dragons & The Hulk Coaster (left) have the high speeds & Spiderman may
well be the best ride in the state. As well as the real fast stuff is the Jurassic Park ride where you get wet
& maybe soaked, Popeyes Bilge Rat Barges where you will get soaked & maybe
drenched. To relax, take it a little easier in the Seuss Landing
area - full of rides for younger members of the family based on the writings of
Dr Seuss.
SeaWorld has been constantly updated
so that it has plenty to
rival the other parks. Feed the dolphins,
rays & seals,
watch the Shamu show (right). Sit in the first 20 rows to get soaked. Walk
the glass tunnels under thousands of
gallons of water & great white sharks or, for your daily thrill fix, try the Kracken
which is Orlando's only floorless roller coaster. There is also the superb Journey to Atlantis
which starts as a log flume & ends as a coaster (sit in the front to get
soaked) or Wild Arctic which is a simulated helicopter ride across
the Arctic. If that is still not enough why not enjoy the ski show or take a
vertical ride up the sky tower for views across the whole International Drive
area. Seaworld has a lot to pack in & is a really good day out.
SeaWorld's newest park is Discovery Cove & you need to book well in advance as it is restricted to 1000
people per day. Guests of all ages are welcome at Discover Cove but you need to
be six years old or over to swim with the dolphins. Entrance is not cheap but
includes lunch & also seven days entry into the main SeaWorld park. Prices vary
dependent on the time of year, whether you wish to swim with the dolphins or
not & also whether you want to be a "Trainer for a Day". Click on Weather &
Links below for the current prices.
Busch Gardens is an hour West of our
Crescent Lakes & home to the
some great Roller Coasters like 65 mph around the outside of Montu's
104 foot loop (left). There are several coasters here & possibly the wettest of rides
- the Tanganyika Tidal Wave which will soak you through
(lockers available). Busch is one of the largest Zoo’s in the US & is
split into several geographical zones. You can see Giraffes (& hand feed them),
Hippo’s, Alligators & White Tigers & numerous other animals which roam
freely. It's a full day & a long walk which makes the free beer they serve
taste all the better*.
* Visit the Anheuser-Busch
Hospitality House for beer tasting.
Central Florida has enough attractions to fill a
50 day+ vacation. In addition to the places already mentioned, others well worth a
visit include Gatorland, The Kennedy Space Center, Disney Quest, Skull Kingdom,
Splendid China, Water Mania & numerous others.
Away from the attractions Florida has some of the finest Golf Courses
in the world (over 50 in the Kissimmee & Orlando area alone).
The picture to the left is Disney's Celebration Golf Club.
This beautiful course is open to the public & is around 10 minutes from the
house.
Courses in Florida are very welcoming & there are dozens of public & numerous semi private
that you can play during your stay. The vast majority of them will also provide
quality clubs for hire.
Although Kissimmee is not a beach resort there are some of the worlds finest
less than 90 minutes away.
In fact nowhere in Florida is more than 60 miles from the sea.
For loud & lively go to Daytona where the beach is not only full of people but also cars.
During College
Spring break Daytona is packed to bursting point.
In total contrast there is the far quieter Gulf
Coast (right) where you can walk for miles on crushed
white shells seeing only a handful of people.
